FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Where is Baran Armor Systems based?

We are a small, independent startup based in London, Ontario, Canada. All of our products are designed and built in Canada.

Is your armor made in Canada?

Yes. Our armor is manufactured in Canada using carefully selected materials and hands-on construction processes.

Is your armor independently tested?

Yes. Our armor is independently tested under controlled conditions to verify performance against specific threats.

Testing results reflect the conditions and configurations used during testing. Real-world performance may vary.

Is your armor NIJ certified?

Our products are independently tested to relevant ballistic standards. While not all products are formally NIJ-certified, testing is conducted to verify performance against equivalent threat levels.

Details for each product are listed on the individual product pages.

Can your armor stop all bullets?

No. No armor is bulletproof.

Armor is designed to reduce the risk of injury from specific threats, not eliminate it entirely. Shot placement, ammunition type, velocity, and other factors all affect performance.

Is armor legal to own in Canada?

Yes — but the rules vary by province or territory. Here’s a general guide:

✔ Ontario

  • No specific legislation restricting ownership or use of body armor.

  • Civilians can buy, own, and wear body armor without a special permit.

✔ Quebec

  • No body armor licensing or permit requirements for civilians.

  • Body armor can be purchased, owned, and worn by residents.

✔ Saskatchewan

  • No specific provincial restriction on owning or using body armor.

  • License requirements generally fall only under federal firearm laws (PAL etc.), not body armor rules.

✔ Manitoba

  • Permit required to legally possess body armor unless exempt.

  • Exemptions include certain law-enforcement/security roles; otherwise a provincial permit is needed.

✔ Alberta

  • Permit required to buy, possess, or wear body armor under the Body Armour Control Act.

  • Permits are issued for legitimate personal/work reasons; exemptions exist for security professionals and emergency responders.

✔ British Columbia

  • You must apply for permission to possess body armor; you will need to show a need or fall under specific exemptions (e.g., security license, PAL, or job requirement).

✔ Nova Scotia

  • Body Armour Control Act restricts possession and sale of body armor unless authorized by law or exemption.

  • This generally means civilian possession without authorization is not allowed.

✔ New Brunswick

  • No specific provincial restrictions — civilians may buy, own, and wear body armor.

✔ Newfoundland & Labrador

  • No distinct body armor laws — civilians can buy and wear body armor without permit requirements.

✔ Prince Edward Island

  • No specific body armor control legislation — civilian purchase and ownership is generally permitted.

✔ Yukon

  • No specific provincial body armour restrictions — civilian purchase and ownership generally allowed.

✔ Northwest Territories & Nunavut

  • Provincial/territorial laws do not place special restrictions on body armor ownership; general Canadian law applies.

Who is your armor intended for?

Our products are intended for lawful civilian and professional use, including personal protection, training, and work-related applications where legally permitted.

We do not condone illegal activity.

Do you offer a warranty?

Yes. We stand behind our products.

Warranty details, including coverage and limitations, are outlined on our Warranty & Replacement page.

What happens if my armor is damaged or used in an incident?

Damaged or impacted armor should not be reused. Armor that has been involved in a ballistic impact may no longer provide protection.

If your armor was used in a real-world defensive incident, contact us directly to discuss available options.

Can I modify my armor or carrier?

Any modification, alteration, or misuse of our products may compromise performance and will void any warranty or performance claims.

Do you accept returns?

Returns are handled on a case-by-case basis. Due to the nature of ballistic equipment, some items may not be eligible for return.

Please review our Returns & Warranty policy or contact us before purchasing if you have questions.

How long does it take to ship?

As a small-batch manufacturer, production and shipping times may vary.

Estimated lead times are listed on each product page. We do our best to communicate clearly and keep customers informed.
